Annual Dinner: “Digital Activism–Resistance, Revolution, and Media”

WACNO is pleased to announce the success of our 2012 Annual Dinner featuring journalist and author Jordan Flaherty who enlightened attendees on the subject of “Digital Activism–Resistance, Revolution, and Media–From New Orleans to Egypt to Occupy”. In addition to Flaherty’s talk, President Chris Fettweis served as MC for the night and announced the slate of nominees for the Board of Directors. As a result, Dr. Chris Fettweis of Tulane University, Aaron Forbes of the Morris Jeff Community School, Generoso Garza of Entergy, David Johnson of Louisiana Cultural Vistas, Fitzpatrick Nedd of Longue Vue House and Gardens, Joe Prisco of Prisco Brothers, LLC, Dr. Alla Rosca of Tulane University, Sheila Wilkinson of the Law Offices of Sheila M. Wilkinson, PLC, and Walter Wolf of Universal Export were elected to the board.

As per usual, the Annual Dinner included a silent auction as well as a raffle for various prizes provided by: American Apparel, Babylon Cafe, Galvez Restaurant, Joe Prisco, Jordan Flaherty, Kayak New Orleans Wetlands (KNOW), La Nuit Theater “Comedy Sportz,” The Law Offices of Sheila M. We are so grateful to have received such generous donations and are so happy for the lucky recipients who get to enjoy them!

Jordan Flaherty’s Bio

Jordan Flaherty is a journalist based in New Orleans, a producer on Fault Lines, the DuPont-Award winning current affairs news program on Al Jazeera, and author of Floodlines: Community and Resistance from Katrina to the Jena Six. He was the first writer to bring the story of the Jena Six to a national audience, and his award-winning reporting from the Gulf Coast has been featured in a range of outlets including the New York Times, Washington Post, Mother Jones, and Argentina’s Clarin newspaper. Flaherty has appeared as a guest on a wide range of television and radio shows, including CNN Morning, Anderson Cooper 360, CNN Headline News, Democracy Now, RT, News and Notes, and various programs on National Public Radio and Air America.
