Dr. John Hazlett  

DR. JOHN HAZLETT is Janet Dupuy Colley Professor of International Studies at the University of New Orleans, where he serves as the Director of the BA in International Studies Program and as Professor of American literature.  He holds a Ph.D. in the latter field from the University of Iowa.  He has taught at various schools around the country and the world, including Contra Costa College in San Pablo, California; the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain); the University of Salamanca (Spain); and the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Córdoba (Veracruz), Mexico. While living in the San Francisco Bay Area, Hazlett also worked as Editor in the Membrane Bioenergetics Group at the University of California, Berkeley and as theater reviewer for City Arts Monthly.  He is the author of My Generation: Collective Autobiography and Identity Politics, as well as numerous essays and reviews.  A sample of his writing can be found in “The Thrill of Being Here: Letter from Fortín de las Flores, Mexico,” originally published in The Southern Review 42 (Winter 2006).  Besides his administrative and teaching duties, Hazlett also serves at UNO as Academic Advisor for the International Student Exchange Programs and for the campus branch of Amnesty International.
