WACNO/Amnesty International New Orleans Speaker Series “Inside Burma: An American Correspondent’s Experience and US Policy Analysis”

hs20

Speaker: Mac McClelland
Date: April 05th (Monday)
Time: 6:30-8:15pm
Location: Tulane University, Goldring Woldenberg Hall II (GW2- Building – see map below) Room 1111

Details:Mac McClelland, human rights correspondent for Mother Jones magazine, will talk about what’s going on in Burma. Among the issues she will discuss are the country’s use of child soldiers, the CIA’s secret war there, and the use of American money to fund genocide. This year the military junta will hold its first governmental elections in 20 years, elections that most observers believe will end in corruption, oppression, and international outcry. McClelland will offer critical insight into the situation and discuss her new book, For Us Surrender Is Out of the Question: A Story From Burma’s Never-Ending War, about her time living with associates of a US-designated terrorist organization battling Burma’s dictatorship.
