WACNO To Add K-12 Outreach to Its Programming!

In line with WACNO’s mission to ‘increase the community’s awareness of global issues’, a new K-12 Outreach Program is being developed. This program seeks to offer internationally-focused educational programs to families and students in New Orleans schools. Morris Jeff Community School, a New Orleans open-access elementary charter school, will be the Pilot School for this program. WACNO’s first initiative is the Teachers and Speakers Network in which local teachers will be able to contact community members who are willing to share their international expertise in the classroom. In the future, we also plan to seek out high school students and teachers to participate in the Academic World Quest Program.

If you or someone you know has an interest in international education or may like to participate in the Teachers and Speakers Network, please contact Aaron Forbes (Program Coordinator) at aaronforbes2008@gmail.com.

K-12 Outreach Program Opportunity: ‘Breakfast with the Principal’ at Morris Jeff Community School

Morris Jeff Community School, an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program Candidate School, is the first school in New Orleans to work together with WACNO on the Teachers and Speakers Network.
Each month, the Principal and Board of MJCS hold an informal meeting with community members who are interested in learning more about the school. WACNO members who are interested in the K-12 Outreach Program are invited to attend the meeting at MJCS on Friday, March 22. The event will begin with an 8 am student assembly, followed by a 30-minute breakfast meeting and a quick class visit.

If you are interested in attending, email Aaron Forbes (Program Coordinator) at aaronforbes2008@gmail.com.
